Sang Kee Asian Bistro – Wynnewood

I’m not sure what they do for lunch now since Whole Foods moved out. Last time I was there it was just Dim Sum… But we order dinner from there all the time..

Sometimes you just get a hankering for Asian food… Could be Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Malaysian .. whatever… AND a drink would go nice. I don’t know why I don’t think of Sang Kee more often. I’ve never had a bad meal here. The menu is HUGE !!! They have Dim Sum, regular lunches and even a Bento Box special for $13. Maybe it’s the $13 that seems steep compared with the typical $7-9 Chinese lunch specials with an egg roll, fried rice and entree that seems to set the standard. Anyway, the Bento here is WELL worth $13, and you get to choose three components (I chose Peking duck roll – EXCELLENT and FULL of duck … a ginger/scallion noodle – VERY good and Walnut Beef – EXCELLENT with tender chunks of round in a tangy sauce with walnuts, asparagus, onions and carrot.) The meal starts with an “amuse-bouche” – I don’t know how you say that in Asian – of pickled jicama and cucumber. There is one per table, but if you eat alone, you get the whole thing (and avoid annoying small talk with a dining companion while you’re trying to eat.) They don’t really have a BAR per se, but a bunch of liquor bottles behind the cash register. The only bottle I could recognize from the back (by shape) was Crown Royal, so I ordered one of those. At $10, I don’t think I’d do that again, but whatever … Very good meal, great service, and it’s close and quick. I’ll be back.
